Registration: 10 - 24 February 2022
Marathon: 25 February - 17 March 2022

What is Mixed Signal Circuit Design and Simulation Marathon?

The purpose of the Mixed Signal Circuit Design and Simulation Marathon using eSim is to provide an open platform to students to innovate, create state-of-the-art design and integrate it into real-world applications. This marathon is based on eSim, an open-source EDA tool for circuit design, simulation and PCB design, developed by FOSSEE, IIT Bombay. eSim is an open-source alternative to PSpice, OrCAD, etc.

FOSSEE, IIT Bombay, along with VLSI System Design Corp. Pvt. Ltd and Redwood EDA is organising this online Mixed Signal Circuit Design and Simulation Marathon.

Why eSim?

  • An Open Source EDA tool
  • One can use it free of cost, no licence is needed
  • Excellent learning material, such as Spoken Tutorials, is available
  • Can be used in any company related work, such as consulting jobs
  • Useful to entrepreneurs, SMEs and so on
  • If required, one can easily switch to a commercial software

Who can participate?

Registration is free of cost and open ONLY to individuals, not to teams or groups. The participant should have a good knowledge of basic electronics.

Problem Statement

  1. In this marathon, the participants will design and simulate circuits in eSim from a pool of choices. These would be split into circuit categories, where the weightage is as per below order:
    1. Mixed Signal domain (Highest Weightage)
    2. Digital domain
    3. Analog domain
  2. The add-on factor here would be that while simulating the circuits using eSim, the participants will be guided in using the NgVeri feature of eSim which enables Mixed Signal simulation in eSim and also test the digital circuits in online Makechip IDE already interfaced with eSim.
  3. The participants will be given a list of Analog IPs (Analog circuit templates) and Digital IPs (Digital circuit templates) for those in Mixed Signal category. Example circuits are available under the resources section in this page.
  4. The participants will also have the advantage of learning these technologies in detail.

Rules and Regulations

  1. The circuit design and simulation has to be done ONLY using eSim.
  2. eSim is the official software for this Marathon. All submissions have to be done using eSim only. Submissions in any other software will be disqualified.
  3. This marathon is open ONLY to individuals. We shall not accept team or group registration/submissions.
  4. Any participant found to be indulging in any form of malpractice will be immediately disqualified.
  5. The decision of the review committee and the organisers in declaring the results will be final. No queries in this regard will be entertained.
  6. All source code leveraged by participants must have been released under an OSI-approved open-source licence.
  7. All submitted work must be released under GPLv3 (Gnu Public Licence).

Resources

System Requirements to run eSim

The workshop will be conducted entirely through the web browser using remote desktops. Then, folks may also run locally on the following linux system:

  • For Linux OS: 64-bit Ubuntu 18.04/20.04 LTS, at least 20GB disk space, minimum of 4GB RAM

Guidelines

  1. Start learning eSim right away using the Spoken Tutorials, available here
  2. Submitting one good entry has higher chances of getting shortlisted, compared to submitting multiple entries.

Benefits

  • e-Certificate on successful completion
  • Recognition on the FOSSEE Website
  • Improved internship/job opportunities
